Year 3 Medical Students Enjoy Welcome to the Trust

Medical students enjoy welcome story imageOn Monday 9th September, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals welcomed over 90 new year 3 medical students to the Trust.

The students, who are studying with the University of Manchester, will be based at both Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley and South Ribble District Hospital for the next three years until their graduation.

To welcome the students to the Trust, the learner support team, together with Preston Medical Society (Medsoc), hosted an annual Freshers’ Fair event to showcase what’s on offer during their three year clinical placements.

The Preston Medical Society is ran by a committee of Year 4 students who provide events, activities and societies helping to establish a tight-knit student community.

A total of 17 societies held stalls on the day ranging from ‘BadmintonSoc’ to ‘HikeSoc’ as well as other initiatives including ‘Street Doctors’ who provide a network of volunteer healthcare students to teach lifesaving skills to young people in the local community.

Learner support manager, Barbara Crank, said:

``It is always nice to welcome a new cohort of students to the Trust and help make their transition from University a successful one.``

“Student pastoral support, which sits within the learner support team, are here to support students during their clinical placements by providing a comprehensive support service which includes academic support, health concerns, financial worries and much more.”
