Welcome to The Health Academy
The Health Academy is the dedicated education and training arm of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, supporting the development of a skilled, compassionate and future‑ready healthcare workforce. Launched in 2015, we play a pivotal role in enabling the delivery of high quality, safe, effective and compassionate care through educational excellence.
Our provision is delivered across four purpose‑built teaching facilities located at Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley and South Ribble Hospital, offering high‑quality learning environments that reflect real clinical practice. Each year, we support and train medical students, apprentices, trainees and the wider healthcare workforce.
As an Anchor institution we are proud that at the heart of our offer is a commitment to inclusive, high‑quality education to the communities of Lancashire and beyond. We deliver a broad range of programmes and services that support learning, development and career progression at every stage — from school‑age engagement and work experience through to undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing professional development opportunities.
A key part of our work is the award‑winning LIFE (Learning Inspirations for Future Employment) Centre, established in 2018. The LIFE Centre inspires future generations to explore careers in healthcare and supports learners from as young as five years old, helping to widen participation and grow the NHS workforce of tomorrow.
We are proud of the supportive learning culture we create. Our dedicated Learner Support teams ensure students and staff are guided, encouraged and empowered throughout their educational journey, fostering confidence, resilience and professional growth in a positive and inspiring environment.
