The Health Academy answers the call to host Vaccination Clinic

Joining the trust wide efforts against Covid-19, Education Centre One at The Health Academy has demonstrated its flexibility by adapting to host a vaccination clinic.

As one of the first vaccination hubs to open in the country on 8th December, staff within the centre played a key role in supporting the initial setup of the clinic and assisting with day-to-day queries during the first few weeks and months.

With over 19,000 first doses of the vaccine administered so far and with second doses beginning this week, the Centres team can be proud in the part they have played in support of wider colleagues from across the Trust.

With little time to prepare, the Centres Team had to work around the clock to  move existing bookings and re-purpose the centre to setup a clinical environment alongside colleagues from clinical areas and wider business support functions.

After having to alter their usual routine, the Centre’s staff rolled out exemplary practise in regard to social distancing measures and keeping our Centres safe for visitors.

The Health Academy Centres Team is now supporting the vaccination hub as they would with any users who would utilise our facilities, as well as still providing teaching and training.

Centres Manager, Dorcas Walker said “We have had a very challenging but also successful twelve months.

“As with everyone, our normal working life was turned upside down when dealing with the impact of Covid-19.

“We were commended at the time for leading the implementation of the social distancing measures put into place whilst reconfiguring our rooms and public areas.

“We also opened our doors to displaced teams and as a backup storage facility for the new Critical Care Unit.

“Most recently we are very proud of how we assisted with the opening of the vaccination hub hosted in the Education Centre One.

“The team were absolutely brilliant rallying round to ensure that the vaccination team were supported.

“It meant long hours and more reconfiguring of rooms and room bookings however we did it and now the hub works alongside us as we prepare for the new academic year!

“Our motto as always is Keep Calm and Carry On!”

We would like to thank both the Centres Team, and the Covid Mass Vaccination Team for all of the hard work they have been doing together – we could not be prouder.
