Each year Lancashire Teaching Hospitals host the “Our People Awards”, distributing accolades which celebrate the hard work of the Trust workforce across seven different categories.
This year, we’re delighted to say that The Health Academy’s very own Nursing Degree Apprenticeship Programme landed the award for the “Best Innovation” category!
The Best Innovation award looks to celebrate staff and projects that are implementing creative and innovative solutions that benefit our service provision, our patients, and our colleagues.
The Nursing Degree Apprenticeship team were nominated for this award based on their innovative solution to support filling the current gaps we have across our Trust and the whole NHS for registered nurses, through offering this Degree Apprenticeship.
This Health Academy, alongside Northumbria University, offers this degree apprenticeship to existing Assistant Practitioner and Nursing Associate staff across the system who wish to progress their healthcare career into Nursing.
The 18 month programme provides a mix of placement, clinical skills and classroom based learning, by which students attain a degree in BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies / Registered Nurse (Adult).
As part of the Our People Awards judging process, the team made a presentation which described how they have creatively designed a clear development and training route for colleagues in our organisation who want to progress their nursing careers.
This innovative programme of work enables individuals to work and learn with us simultaneously, providing a strong career pathway which helps us to retain our talent.
Lancashire Teaching Hospitals’ Medical Director, Dr Gerry Skailes, surprised the team with the award on 24th November.
Upon receiving the award Kate Harrison, Head of Professional Education Development, said: “I am extremely proud of the Nursing Degree Apprenticeship team and the Nursing students on the programme, I am looking forward to our first cohort of Nurses qualifying in March and taking up staff nurse posts within the Trust”
We would like to offer a massive congratulations to the team, it is well deserved after all of their hard work over the last 18 months.
