Big Year Ahead for the Practice-Based Pathway

The Practice Education and Development (PED) Team are gearing up for an exciting few months as they prepare to welcome the next cohort of students onto the Practice-Based Pathway (PBP) this September. With three intakes each year — September, January, and June — the programme is expanding at pace. The upcoming September intake will take the PBP to its full capacity of concurrent cohorts, a huge milestone for the team.

There’s another first on the horizon too. Students who joined in January 2023 are on track to qualify by the end of this year, making them the very first graduates of the PBP. Their journey will mark an important moment in the pathway’s history, and an update on their achievements will be shared in the coming months.

The September 2025 cohort officially begin on Monday 22nd September with a dedicated Welcome Week. This introduction ensures new students feel supported from the very start, helping them get to grips with university systems before diving into their academic modules. The week also offers a chance to meet the Practice Education Facilitators (PEFs) from partner trusts, including Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, East Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, Blackpool Victoria Hospital, and University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay. Representatives from RCN and Unison will also be on hand to welcome students, share union benefits, and, as always, hand out a few freebies.

The PED team are also holding an Open Evening on 22nd September from 3pm–6pm at Royal Preston Hospital (RPH), near the main lifts.

The event is open to anyone interested in pursuing a career in nursing — no booking required. The PBP recognises prior learning and experience, making it an excellent opportunity for those already working in healthcare or those who have completed qualifications such as the Nurse Associate Course to take the next step in their careers.
