We are pleased to announce that the upcoming FIT Mask Booking process will now be more easily accessible for all colleagues, through the E-Learning Platform.
Starting from the 1st March, all Mask Fit Testing appointments will now be booking online. This change will make the booking process more efficient and convenient for all staff. You will no longer need to contact the Education Centre reception to secure your appointment and check availability —simply log in and schedule your session at a time that works best for you.
However, for remaining February appointments, you can still book using the existing extensions:
- Preston: Extension 4919
- Chorley: Extension 5600
Available between 9:30am – 11:30am or 1:00pm – 3:00pm.
This update will help you stay ahead in securing your mask fitting.
How to book appointment?
- Direct Link: Simply click on Mask Fit Testing.
- Courses Menu: Head to the Courses section and select the Mask Fit Testing category.
- New & Updated Courses: It will also be listed under this section on your dashboard.
Once you select the course, you’ll see a Self-Enrolment message.
Then, just read and agree to the disclaimer, and you’ll be able to select a session time under the Mask Fit Sessions icon. It’s that simple!
Why is this Change Important?
This shift to online booking ensures that you and your team can easily manage your schedules without delays. No more back-and-forth with reception—just click, book, and you’re all set!
You’ll also receive updates and reminders, making it even easier to stay on top of your fit testing.
Do you need to book a Mask Fit Appointment?
- Testing is required every 2 years and employees must be fitted with 2 masks.
- If you’ve had a fit test at another hospital, you’ll need to be refitted here.
Preparation for Your Appointment:
To ensure an accurate fit test, there are a few important things to note:
- Be nil by mouth for at least 30 minutes before your session. This means no food, drink, smoking, or vaping (water is fine). This helps avoid false negatives and ensures a smooth process.
- We now use the PortaCount system for fit testing, which is a modern, chemical-free method.
- Please refer to the latest Infection Control guidance for any PPE information. It’s important to stay up-to-date on any changes that might affect your session.
As space for these appointments is limited, it’s a good idea to book early to secure your preferred time.
Available Dates for February Bookings (via Extensions):
Here are the remaining dates for February, which are still bookable through the extensions:
Preston:
- Tuesday, 25th Feb – 9:30am – 2:30pm
- Wednesday, 26th Feb – 9:00am – 2:00pm
- Thursday, 27th Feb – 8:30am – 2:30pm
- Friday, 28th Feb – 1:00pm – 2:30pm
Chorley:
- Friday, 28th Feb – 9:30am – 11:00am
To view the March Appointments and beyond: all appointments will be available on the E-Learning Sessions or via the Intranet.
Why You Should Book Now:
Don’t forget, if you’re changing masks or wearing one for the first time, you must attend a fit testing session. This is a mandatory requirement for your safety and to ensure your mask fits correctly.
Important Reminder About Facial Hair:
It’s important to remember that FFP3 masks cannot be worn with facial hair because it prevents an effective seal. If you have facial hair, you will need to be clean-shaven for the fit test. If your beard is for religious reasons, please discuss this with your line manager, as a respirator hood may be an option if deemed appropriate.
