The first cohort of Nursing Apprentices graduate from Northumbria University

On 7 July 2022, the first cohort of nursing apprentices from our Registered Nursing Apprenticeship Programme attended their graduation ceremony at Northumbria University, Newcastle.

This 18-month programme enables assistant practitioners, nursing associates, and healthcare assistants with previous health related degrees to become Registered Adult Nurses. The course is delivered by Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Northumbria University and validated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Students benefit from the virtual support provided by the University and the face to face support from the Trust. The programme was split between placement, theory sessions and self-directed study, and students had access to library services and learner support teams.

We are delighted that each graduate on this cohort has secured a role at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals in registered nurse roles, and we look forward to welcoming our 6th cohort in September 2022. This programme has supported 100 additional nursing students to become registered adult nurses in the local area, which is outstanding.

September 2022 will be the last intake using the funding provided to us by NHS North West. If you would like to find out more about our courses and programmes please visit the Health Academy website.
