The academic year has finally come to a close and our undergraduate medical students from Years 3 and 4 are currently enjoying a well-earned holiday before resuming their studies in August/September 2026. Our Year 5 students have now graduated and are due to start working in their foundation roles week commencing 3rd August 2026. It’s not just about hard work so we thought we would look back on a couple of events that showcase the social and sporting side of life as a medical student in Preston.
On the 9th May 2026, students dressed up to the nines and gathered at the beautiful and historic Samlesbury Hall for their graduation ball. It was a wonderful evening full of laughter, music and dancing and will be a fantastic memory for those students. Members of staff from the University of Manchester attended as well as some of the Undergraduate Team from Preston and a good time was had by all.
A week later the Varsity Sports Day brought together medics and sports societies from Manchester and Preston for an exciting day of friendly competition, teamwork, and community! Participants competed across football, badminton, netball, and basketball, showcasing great sportsmanship and enthusiasm throughout the day. Dr ‘Dunni Adeniyi (Deputy Associate Programme Director for Student Experience at the University of Manchester) attended, and it would be great if we could get more staff involvement next year. Off the court and pitch, everyone enjoyed good pizza, great company, and the chance to connect with friends they hadn’t had a chance to see in a while. The event was a huge success, creating a fun atmosphere while strengthening relationships between both societies. A massive well done to Manchester for taking the trophy home and a big thank you to everyone who took part and helped make the day such a memorable one!
