The Health Academy are hosting their first Educator CPD Event, addressing important topics as voted for by our very own Educators through the recent Professional Development Teaching and Learning Survey.
Lancashire and South Cumbria’s Trust, Change Talks, an award-winning health education initiative, will be coming to discuss all things Neurodiversity for the first session.
The afternoon will explore conditions that fall beneath the ‘Neurodiverse umbrella’ and introduce their key concepts, sharing the typical strengths and challenges of neurodivergent individuals and how these can be addressed and overcome in a classroom setting. Promoting understanding and discussion of the varying conditions’ impact on learning.
In a workshop setting, the team will support educators in exploring alternative teaching and adaptations that can be made in classrooms to enhance the learning experiences of students and learners with conditions such as Autism, ADHD and Dyslexia. This teaching can help educators gain a better understanding of the needs of their neurodiverse learners, whilst providing practical strategies to promote a more inclusive and supportive environment for all students. Educators will have a collaborative space to share their experiences.
Change Talks will also take the time to discuss ‘The Big Three’ of anxiety, depression and stress – mental health conditions that neurodiverse learners are statistically more likely to suffer from. Attending Educators will explore the impacts of these health conditions on both the personal and professional lives of learners, as well as how to recognise their symptoms. The session will provide tools for assisting the management of these symptoms, enabling educators to foster a supportive and resilient approach to mental health in the workplace.
There will also be the opportunity to hear from neurodiverse learners as they share their lived experiences of what it is like being on the other side of the desk, in a classroom at LTHTr. The team will be on hand to answer any and all queries or concerns that educators may have, ensuring that the duty of care for all is adhered to as a priority.
This event is currently fully booked, however a waiting list will be available soon.
