On Tuesday 12th November 2024 the Undergraduate Medical Teaching Awards ceremony brought together educators, students and colleagues to celebrate this past year’s achievements in undergraduate medical education at the Trust.
The awards, which were voted for by the medical students, highlighted the extraordinary efforts of educators and their teams, outlining how they have significantly contributed to shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals.
LTHTr Hospital Dean, Consultant Paediatrician, and Senior Honorary Chair in Manchester Medical School, Professor Madhavi Paladugu, extended her heartfelt gratitude in her opening remarks for all the hard work that goes into supporting medical students’ education. She said:
“I would like to thank you for all of the effort that goes behind supporting the students. All the hard work that goes on throughout the STAPS Team, Support Teams, Simulation and Skills Team, the Libraries Team, the Clinical Teams and all the other teams to provide the best support they can give to the medical students. Without you, our medical education delivery would be impossible.”
Deputy Director of Education, Lauren O’Brien, echoed her gratitude, emphasising the importance of teamwork and leadership, adding:
“It shows what we can achieve when we pull together and strive for high performance and high achievements. Madhavi, your leadership is above and beyond; none of this would be achievable without you. I’ve never worked with a Hospital Dean as committed.”
A touching homage was also paid to Kay Cartwright, a dedicated colleague who sadly passed away earlier this year. Kay was heavily involved in undergraduate medical education through her role as Student, Trainee, and Placement Support (STAPS) Hub Manager and is remembered for her never-ending “can-do attitude.”
Her memory was honoured throughout the ceremony, and her contributions to medical education in the Trust were celebrated. Her legacy lives on through the Student Choice Award, now dedicated to her memory.
