Foundation Team Building - 30th July 2019

On July 30th, the Foundation team & the new cohort of trainees attended a team building day which including completing an Escape Room and a couple of games of laser quest at Escape Rooms Preston. Everyone had fun and it helped the cohort to get to know each other before officially starting their FY1 year.

Changes in Foundation Programme Team:

Due to Dr Howells moving on to an exciting new project, there have been some changes to the Foundation Team. Dr Alison Sykes has now taken over as the Foundation Programme Director and is also now the lead overseeing the Foundation Placements. Mr Vinod Varughese (AFPD) is now taking over organising the Foundation Teaching Programme and Dr Fatimah Soydemir (AFPD) will continue to oversee portfolios

Office Move:

The Post Graduate team have now moved office. We are still based on the first floor of G Block - turn right at the top of the stairs and we are now in the office at the end of the corridor!

Sadly Dr Dhaygude will be leaving his role as Associate Foundation Programme Director in October. We wish him all the best in his new role as TPD for Renal. Congratulations to Dr Vinod Varughese who will take over from Dr Dhaygude as AFPD.

Foundation Health and Wellbeing Teaching - December 2018

The Foundation team organised for the FY1's and FY2's to have a Health and Wellbeing session during their teaching programme. The aim of the session was to highlight stress management and help the trainees discover new ways to relax. A huge thank you to all of the volunteers who gave up their time to run the stalls which included activities such as: Pets for Therapy, ABL Health, JD Gyms, GymWorks, cake decorating, hand massages, bee keeping, arts and crafts, origami, financial advice (Foresters) as well as food and refreshments provided by MDU, Foresters & the Foundation team.

Foundation Programme Directors - Update

Competency Skills Assessments - 2nd and 3rd August

Well done to all the new cohort of junior doctors who completed their skills assessments last Thursday and Friday. A big thank you to the Post Graduate, Undergraduate, Pharmacy and Clinical Skills teams who helped to assess 60 doctors over the two days.

FY1 Awards - 26th July 2018

During the last FY1 teaching session of the year we held an awards ceremony to celebrate the FY1 trainees achievements. Congratulations to Jonathan Bennett who won FY1 Doctor of the Year and Riah Syed who won Portfolio of the Year.

FY1 Team Building - 24th July 2018

On the 24th July the new cohort of FY1's took part in a team building day. We went to Escape Rooms in Preston - well done to Rebecca Clayton, Charlotte Byatt, Matthew Deeley, Eleanor Strong and Jack Mosley who were the only group to successfully escape from their room!

Foundation Shadowing Period 16th July - 31st July

From the 16th July - 31st July the new cohort of FY1's will partake in a shadowing period before they start their Foundation training on Wednesday 1st August. This will consist of shadowing on the wards, teaching sessions on pharmacy, ATSP, QMED, Athens and necessary follow on training which was highlighted during the pre employment interviews.

Saturday 28th April 2018

Natalie, Nicky & Jane have signed up to take part in the Rosemere Walk in the Dark! On Saturday 28th April they will walk with family and friends from Chorley District Hospital to Royal Preston Hospital (approx 11 miles) to raise money for the Rosemere Cancer Foundation. The post graduate and clinical skills teams held a skills assessment day for 21 new junior doctors as part of their induction into the Trust. The day was very well received and ran smoothly!

Friday 15th December 2017

On Friday 15th December, the Post Graduate and Under Graduate teams will be joining forces with the reception team from the Health Academy to raise money for Save the Children by wearing Christmas jumpers and accesories. If anyone would like to join us, there are donation boxes in the reception area in Health Academy Centre 1

 

Thursday 14th December 2017

To get into the Christmas spirit the Post Graduate and Undergraduate teams all went for Christmas dinner together. Natalie and Tom both won the prize from Mellors for the best Christmas jumper!

Wednesday 23rd November 2017

On Wednesday 23rd November 2017 our Associate Foundation Programme Director Dr Soydemir, Medical Education Manager Kay Cartwright and our Foundation Programme Co-ordinator Nicky Henderson attended the Manchester Medical Careers Fair at Whitworth Hall in Manchester. The aim of the day was to meet prospective Foundation students and promote the Foundation Programme at LTHTr.

Friday 20th October 2017

Natalie and Nicky held a fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness Day on Friday 20th October. This included:

  • Wearing 'Pink' for the day
  • A cake sale 
  • Wear it Pink picture game

We would like to thank the PASS team, Foundation Trainees, Medical Students and Mellors catering for all joining in.

We raised a grand total of: £196.60
