The aim of this programme is to offer students with learning difficulties the opportunity to engage in activities that will help them understand the working environment. The candidates attend timetabled sessions once a week for 7 weeks.
Interactive and engaging sessions
The sessions are tutored by 7 different department at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals including catering, portering and x-ray. The departments ensure they allow candidates to ‘have a go’ at activities relating to the work of team they are exploring during the session.
Helping to secure employment
The programme sees some of the candidates attending a department on work experience for a few hours a week which has led to some candidates securing permanent employment and long term volunteering positions within the Trust.
This Work Familiarisation Programme has been running for a number of years, seeing 36 students attend each year totalling approximately 350 students successfully completing since the pilot.
