A Resuscitation Council UK Advanced Life Support (ALS) qualification is valid for four years, and recertification is the ideal way to refresh and enhance expertise developed during your initial course. By updating your knowledge in line with the latest best practice, you’ll be better equipped to lead and contribute during critical emergencies.
Recognised internationally by the European Resuscitation Council and the Australian Resuscitation Council, ALS certification gives you the flexibility to take your skills wherever your career leads. Joining more than 20,000 healthcare professionals trained each year, you’ll strengthen vital competencies including adult CPR, early recognition and management of the deteriorating patient, and effective teamworking in high-pressure situations.
The course manual is sent to candidates one month before the course. Candidates are expected to have prepared for the course by reading the manual and submitting their completed pre-course MCQ paper before attending the face to face course. Candidates are mandated to complete the pre-course MCQ. Candidates are also given access to e-learning materials on the LMS. The course programme consists of lectures, workshops, skill stations and cardiac arrest simulations (i.e CASTeach).
Continuous assessment occurs throughout the ALS course, which is based on clinical simulations that allow candidates to demonstrate the core competencies that have been taught on the course. These include airway management, high quality CPR and defibrillation and cardiac arrest management. A final assessment of candidates at the end of the course takes the form of management of a cardiac arrest simulation. Successful candidates receive a Resuscitation Council (UK) ALS provider certificate, which is valid for 4 years. The ALS course is recognised for up to 10 continuing professional development (CPD) points.
Provider certification will be valid for four years Skills should be updated every six months for the cardiac arrest team. If you would like to apply for this course, please complete the online application form.
