The Placement Expansion Support (PES) Team is a new team within the Student, Trainee and Placement Support portfolio at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.
The newly developed team has been created to provide outstanding support to all placement areas and learners, with a view to expanding the volume of learners within the Trust.
This includes all divisions within Nursing and Allied Health Professions at both Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley & South Ribble Hospital.
Expanding the provision of placements for our learners is key to providing an even more enriching and informative learning experience, supporting our learners in finding the areas they may like to work in in the future.
Since starting work as a new team, PES have created several new placements for our learners by working closely with the Adult Nursing Research Team.
The PES Team has introduced a new eight week placement in the Integrated Nutrition Communication Service (INCS) & the Clinical Investigation Unit (CIU), providing our learners with the opportunity to spend two weeks each with the Nutrition, Alcohol, CIU, and Central Venous Access Team teams.
Nursing & AHP learners now also have the option to complete a placement in Orthopaedics, offering an amazing opportunity for collaborative learning within our Hospitals.
The team has also put learners in another newly developed placement within the Hands department of Occupational Therapy, where they complete both onsite practical learning as well as project work.
Feedback shows that our learners are thriving in these new placements, which are providing them with enhanced learning opportunities and better preparing them for their future careers.
Lisa Carter, Placement Expansion Support, said: “Our team has a passion for supporting our current and future workforce.
“We work collaboratively to support the delivery of a wide range of learning opportunities for our learners in order to maximise their potential, whilst supporting all of our current and future clinical placement areas with their learners.
“Excitingly, to date, we have increased the capacity of learners within several clinical placement areas at both Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley and South Ribble Hospital, under the specialisms of Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professions.
“We have also created and introduced new clinical placement areas under these specialisms in order to enhance the scope of practice our learners obtain their learning outcomes within.”
