Course overview
  • Course: Level 4 Learning and Skills Mentor Apprenticeship
  • Start Date: Multiple start dates throughout 2024
  • Duration: 12-18 Months

There are no formal entry requirements to come on the programme although candidates will be expected to have Level 2 English and Maths or a willingness to work towards achieving them.  The learner must be working in a role where they are able to demonstrate the skills and knowledge obtained and put into practice within their role.  It is expected candidates will have sector specific experience and qualifications, which they use to guide and advise those who are less experienced and new to a work role.

This programme will equip you with the skills and knowledge to enable you to take on the newly created role of practice assessor.   It is designed to enable Allied Health Professionals from multiple clinical areas to supervise, support and assess learners in practice.

The main focus of the learning is being able to put learning into practice back in the workplace.  Learners will develop their skills as a mentor and ultimately be able to better advise, guide and supervise learners to ensure they acquire the most benefit from their learning programme.  The Apprenticeship, will develop your communication and listening skills, coaching and feedback skills, assessment, leadership and reflection.

A variety of interactive learning methods are used including discussion, group work, reflection, clinical scenarios, workshops, peer learning, e-learning and simulation. The flipped classroom model will be used in which some pre-work may be completed before attending the sessions, allowing you to absorb the themes at your own pace.

During the programme this will be done through informal assessment of group discussions and Q&A during class.    Formative assessment of progress towards the Learning Mentor Apprenticeship standards is carried out throughout the course and will be assessed in a portfolio format. You will be able to upload tasks and reflections to an electronic portfolio called OneFile.

A summative (end point) assessment will take place in the form of an observation by an external examiner at the end of your course.  You will be fully prepared for this and have the opportunity to practice with our internal assessors.

Learners will also complete a Level 1 Safeguarding qualification alongside their main programme of study.
