Former Medical Student“The support that the Learner Support team offered during my time as a medical student was invaluable. They facilitated me to perform to the best of my ability in my studies by supporting me in other aspects of my life. During my working life at other Trusts, I have not come across a student/trainee support team as good as the one at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.”

Former Medical Student“I would not have made it to final year without the Learner Support Team’s consistent support. During semester one of 3rd year, I encountered problems in multiple areas of my life which led me to question my decision to make the career change into medicine and I considered returning to the business sector. The support provided learner support complemented the other therapies required to move past these problems, manage stress and helped me to realise that I am capable of becoming a fantastic doctor. The quiet room is also a peaceful space to sit and collect your thoughts if you feel that things are a little overwhelming. The team are friendly, welcoming and encouraging to enable you to reach your full potential. The experiences with the team have also highlighted that there is no shame in seeking help and support at certain times on our lives.”

Current Medical Student“During my 4th year I struggled with depression and was in a very dark place, I thought to myself that I couldn’t continue with medicine and that my dream of being a doctor would end prematurely. I then reached out to Learner Support to discuss what was happening. They sat, they listened with care and empathy and they supported me unconditionally. They organised counselling & helped me organise an interruption from the course. Learner Support supported me throughout my interruption and now that I’m back that support is still there via regular meetings and an open door policy. It’s no overstatement to say that if it wasn’t for the team, I would have dropped out of the course. They do a fantastic job with those who are suffering and I am eternally grateful for what they did for me!”
``I just wanted to say a big thank you for all your support and guidance you have been providing me with over the last 3 years i have been at LTHTR. I have been through some of my biggest life moments during that time including a Wedding, getting pregnant and graduating. you supported me through difficulties in my personal life and also my mental health whether it was sign posting, referring or more importantly listening to my concerns and providing me non-judgemental and impartial advise and support with placements if i needed it. Knowing you were there to support and all the advice was invaluable and i wouldn’t have been able to complete my degree without your support.``
