Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker

The main focus of the learning is being able to put learning into practice back in the workplace.  This Apprenticeship will focus on six core areas including; Health and wellbeing, Duty of care and candour, safeguarding, equality and diversity, Person centred care, treatment and support, Communication, Personal, people and quality improvement and Health, safety and security.  You will also undertake a range of optional units depending on your pathway of study.

Study pathways: Adult Nursing Support, Maternity Support, Theatre Support, Mental Health Support, Children and Young People.

A variety of interactive learning methods are used including discussion, group work, reflection, clinical scenarios, workshops, peer learning, e-learning and simulation. The flipped classroom model will be used in which some pre-work may be completed before attending the sessions, allowing you to absorb the themes at your own pace.

During the programme this will be done through informal assessment of group discussions and Q&A during class.    Formative assessment of progress towards the Senior Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship standard is carried out throughout the course and will be assessed in a portfolio format. You will be able to upload tasks and reflections to an electronic portfolio called OneFile.

A summative (end point) assessment will take place in the form of an observation by an external examiner, a multiple choice and short answer test and completion of a learning journal with an interview…  You will be fully prepared for this and have the opportunity to practice with our internal assessors.

Candidates must have formal experience of work as a Healthcare Support Worker to come on the programme and will be expected to have Level 2 English and Maths or a willingness to work towards achieving them.  The learner must be working in a role where they are able to demonstrate the skills and knowledge obtained and put into practice within their role.   You must also complete an induction which meets the 15 standards as set out in the Care Certificate

After a period of working and gaining experience, you may be able to work towards an Assistant Practitioner or Nursing Associate post or, providing you meet the entry requirements, apply to university to become a registered healthcare practitioner.

Duties are delegated to you in line with care plans.  Not all duties are routine, and you will need to use your knowledge, experience and understanding to take decisions within your area of responsibility. You are accountable for your work and for reviewing the effectiveness of your actions. The role is undertaken following a period of experience in healthcare, so you are able to demonstrate best practice and act as a role model. You may supervise or guide the less experienced staff in your team.
