Introduction of the new role of Practice Development Facilitator

The Placement Expansion Team has been involved in creating and recruiting to the brand new role of Practice Development Facilitator at the Trust. We have two new colleagues joining the Placement Expansion Team in the summer of 2021 who will fulfil these roles, as part of the Placement Expansion Team, within Workforce and Education. The Practice Development Facilitator’s will work across both sites at Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley Hospital to support Nursing staff with their duties of supporting our learners during their clinical placements, to achieve the skills required to becoming a Qualified Nurse.

The Practice Development Facilitator (PDF) role was created, due to the national Repair Project outlining high attrition rates for both Student Nurses and newly qualified Staff Nurses. This role consists of; teaching, assessing and supervising clinical skills, with both learners and newly qualified Staff Nurses; supporting the delivery of the model CLiP™ (collaborative learning in practice); supporting learners and nursing staff with PARE documentation and support the completion of learning logs in order for our Student Nurses to collate their evidence to reach their proficiencies. This role promotes embedding the professional values that the Trust adheres to.

We will evaluate the effectiveness of the role of Practice Development Facilitator, for both learners and nursing staff and if you wish to take part in our survey, please contact PES@lthtr.nhs.uk for further details.
