Our living collection is about talking. We aim to open talks between staff. You will meet staff you do not often meet in your day-to-day work.
It is a simple idea:
- Staff choose to be “human” books to tell their life story.
- The borrower gets to hear the book’s lived experience, in their own words.
We hope this will help you:
- Share best practice.
- Help with tackling bias when due to a lack of knowledge.
- Tackle unfairness.
- Hear about the trials some members of staff face each day.

You can borrow one of our human books from Our Living Collection. To “take out” a book, fill in this form. We will then arrange a chat with the “book” of your choice. The chat may take place face to face or via Microsoft Teams. It will depend on:
- When the human book is free.
- When the human book feels ready to talk.
