We also subscribe to journals covering a wide range of medical specialities, such as anaesthetics, cardiology, critical care, gastroenterology, gynaecology, nephrology, neurology, obstetrics, oncology, ophthalmology, paediatrics, palliative, respiratory, and many more.

You can search for our journals using a resource called Browzine.

An NHS OpenAthens account is required to access the library’s electronic journals outside the Trust network.

BMJ Case Reports

Search the world’s largest collection of clinical case reports

BMJ Case Reports is an important educational resource offering a high volume of cases in all disciplines so that healthcare professionals, researchers and others can easily find clinically important information on common and rare conditions.

You can browse reports by speciality, by the latest content, or most read article.

To submit your own case report you need a fellowship number – please ask a member of Library staff for details or email library@lthtr.nhs.uk.

Literature Searching & Article Request Service

Your NHS library team can find you high quality evidence to inform decision making – saving you time to care for your patients.

If you need the latest research for patient care, service improvements, guidelines and more, but you don’t have the time or the knowledge to search, we can help. We can search healthcare databases such as Medline for information on specific topics, all you need to do is request an evidence search. We can also offer training sessions on how to conduct a literature search yourself if you prefer.

If you’re struggling to locate a specific article, or you don’t have time to search for it, we can find articles for you. Complete our article request form online and in most cases we can obtain it from another NHS library free of charge.

BMJ Best Practice

Earn credits while searching for answers to your clinical questions

On BMJ Best Practice it’s possible for you to automatically track your CME/CPD activity within BMJ Best Practice, making it easier for you to keep track of your learning and save you time preparing for appraisal.

All the time you spend reading topics and finding clinical answers on BMJ Best Practice is automatically logged and converted into CME/CPD credits. You will get 0.25 credits for every 15 mins spent on the website and app.

Certificates can be downloaded as proof of your CME/CPD.

You need to register for a personal account first. You can then:

  • Save time preparing for appraisal with automatic activity tracking
  • Demonstrate continuous improvement and development
  • Keep a record of BMJ Best Practice activity on a personal dashboard
  • Present learning activity in a printable certificate to count towards CPD learning requirements and portfolio.

DynaMed

Tracking CME/CE/CPD in DynaMed has never been easier

Doctors and other healthcare professionals using DynaMed to inform and support their clinical decisions are eligible to earn continuing medical education (CME) credits and continuing education (CE) contact hours, respectively, for this internet point of care (PoC) activity.

DynaMed has been accredited by The Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) and is considered to be of high quality and relevant for general practitioners’ CPD and Revalidation needs. 1CPD point per hour can be claimed for using DynaMed.

Oxford Handbooks Online

You have access to over 130 Oxford University Press medical and healthcare books online. The collection includes titles from the popular series Oxford Medical Handbooks, Oxford Specialist Handbooks and Oxford Textbooks.

You can download chapters as PDFs for easy offline reading.

You can also borrow Oxford Handbooks in print from the Library.

We have a Health & Wellbeing Collection to help you relax and stay fit & healthy. The collection includes books on stress, healthy eating, exercise, hobbies and much more. There are both eBooks and print books available in the collection.

We also have a large fiction and non-fiction collection to help you relax and unwind after a busy day working.

We have relaxation areas where you can take some time out and reflect after a busy or difficult shift, including a Health and Well-being room at Chorley and comfy seating areas at Preston.

The Library and these resources can be accessed 24/7 with your Trust ID Badge.
